Ex-professional boxer and fitness instructor, Max Wallace and his wife, gospel singer Ruth Wallace will ceremoniously take over Bushwacker, a local well-known health food shop on Sunday 2nd April. The grand opening will see the Hammersmith health food shop change its name to Health Defence Organics – Community Wholefoods Store and will mark a new beginning of wellness for residents. Hammersmith’s central London location with fantastic transports links, makes the new shop a feasible commute for those near and far.
The Health Defence Organics – Community Wholefoods Store will sell a range of health food products such as ancient traditional grains – spelt and quinoa in addition to more commonly known grains such as oats and millet. Consumers can expect to find black rice, whole-wheat pasta, and a myriad of gluten free foods and other specific dietary foods and healthy juices and beverages.
Foods that have grown exponentially in popularity over the last decade will also be sold. These include – hemp seeds, alongside the oil. The range of oils will extend to virgin cold pressed olive oil, the perfect companion to any fresh salad and coconut oil which due to its strong resistant to oxidation at high temperatures is ideal for cooking. Spirulina, chlorella and wheatgrass supplements, dried sea greens such as kelp and Irish moss (also known as sea moss, from both Ireland and St Lucia) will also be on sale. Ruth will be managing the wholefood aspect of the building, while Max will be operating the gym and fitness activities at the back of the shop.
Speaking ahead of the store opening, health store manager, Ruth said: “There are both telling and exciting times ahead. Consumers are becoming more nutritionally and ethically savvy and demanding. There is such a growing awareness of food nutrition, and the desperate shortage in most generic foods, and the damage to our health that the environment plays on a daily basis. Health Defence Organics aims to support the consumer to do just that and ‘defend their health’ as our health is the most valuable commodity we have.”
Over the last several decades, Max has worked in a number of roles in the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham such as a security officer and a facilities manager of a sizeable community centre. Even during this period, Max was unafraid to venture into the world of entrepreneurialism and self-employment, working as a kickboxing instructor and a shop owner in the once fabled and vibrant Shepherd’s Bush Market.
Max said: ”After the pandemic I saw the devastation it was causing in the community, and I felt I needed to do something about it from the grassroots, so I started my own wellbeing company Health Defence CIC in 2020. My aim is to improve the health and wellbeing, for all, in our community may it be physically, mentally, and spiritually. In 2022 I built my own wellbeing centre and although slowly it is helping individuals in the community, but I want to help more.’’
The grand opening of the Health Defence Organics – Community Wholefoods Store will be at 11:00am on Sunday 2nd April at 132 King Street, Hammersmith, London, W6 0QU.
